This feels much more satisfying and well-tuned than the original Sanctum - and the addition of co-op takes it to a whole new difficulty level.

Furious Angels [Steam store page]
Simple yet elegant gameplay. This is a great example of how to make a game engaging but super accessible.

Minecraft in 2D, but with good combat and bosses. You can make a large variety of weapons and potions, and there are sky islands, dungeons, and the underworld to explore. The 1.1 update adds tons of content and improves the game considerably.

Plants vs. Zombies GOTY Edition [Steam store page]
A fairly relaxing arcade game - while repetitive it can get tough on the endless levels, especially right before each of the endless achievements. Would be nice if the game remembered your choice of plants between levels

Counter-Strike: Source [Steam store page]
More realistic and slower paced than some other shooters. The guns also tend to be less accurate than your normal video game for realism, and shooting while you run is nearly impossible. Still, a reasonably fun multi-player FPS.

Infectonator : Survivors [Steam store page]
The game concept/design is solid - scavenge supplies, rebuild your base, try to rebuild the car to get out of town - but there are a couple fatal flaws that really hurt the gameplay.

The main one is the AI - it's dumb as a box of rocks, and will walk through toxic slime (which kills the character in a few seconds) without hesitation, even when there's an easy path around it. Most of my damage and deaths in this game were due to the AI making stupid decisions.

And when a character "dies", they can be revived for around 15 seconds - which is fine except that it takes like 7 seconds to actually revive them. The timer doesn't stop as you're reviving, which means that if you get to the character with 3 seconds left on their timer, there's no chance you can save them.

It makes it frustrating if you're in the middle of fighting zombies and can't start healing immediately. I'm sure there are upgrades to make heals faster, but it's still a flawed design.

More like Oregon Trail than FTL: Faster Than Light, you have to balance your shields, power, and faction alliances. It seems like many encounters have a preferred way of dealing with them, so a decent amount of this game is just trial and error, seeing what happens if you use Offense/Passive/Contact on a specific encounter.

As you go through these encounters your ship levels up based on how your crew is assigned. Still not sure what these levels actually do, but I've only played for a short time so far.

Please note: as of Jan 2, 2018 the fullscreen mode is still broken on Windows 10, you get a black screen. This can be fixed by setting the game exe to Windows 7 compatibility mode, but it's a shame you have to do that.

I want to like this game, but while the graphics are gorgeous and the flying feels good, the content is lacking and inconsistent. The difficulty curve is polar opposites most of the time, either you're dominating the enemy or dying very quickly, and there's little to do besides pick up resources and shoot enemies.

The EVERSPACE - Encounters DLC pack sounds like it adds some actual mission content, but I haven't played that so I don't know if it's actually satisfying, and it's silly to be charged extra for what should have been part of the base game. Granted the game+dlc is $40, not $60 like AAA titles, but it also has a lot less content than one too.

I give them credit for the weapon design and feel though - each of the main ones is unique and feels powerful if used correctly. And although there are only three ship types they each play completely differently. It's just too bad they didn't add a decent variety of gameplay to go with them.

The Binding of Isaac [Steam store page]
Decent mechanics but disgusting theme. Enemies can shoot diagonally, you can't. The bad hit-boxes on arrows are frustrating, making yours regularly miss enemies and allowing enemies to occasionally hit you through walls. Made with Flash, low res.

Dead Space 2 [Steam store page]
Much better and scarier than Dead Space, good atmosphere. The camera isn't sluggish and not as close. Combat also seems more responsive, and melee is somewhat possible. The 'Force' is useful, though sometimes the item you're holding disappears.

Killing Floor [Steam store page]
The graphics are a bit rough but this game is all about speed and accuracy killing waves of experimental creatures. Forget story, the co-op is loads of fun with a group of friends, and fairly challenging as well.

The most difficult part is the way enemies rubberband - if you run full tilt on many maps, and turn around they'll still be very close behind you - rounding the nearest corner or doorway. The spawn locations also don't seem to be set specifically - they seem to appear directly around any corner that you haven't looked around in the last few seconds, or further ahead if you're running rather than camping. On some areas in maps they also drop down from above, off buildings or through holes in the roof.

These mechanics aren't necessarily flaws - they make the game much more fast paced and difficult than it would be if you could kite them more strategically. Kiting is still very much possible because the game limits the number of enemies on the map at any time - so if you can group them all behind you then they will slowly appear in front of you as you kill ones behind.

An interesting blend of FPS and tower defense. Seems geared toward multiplayer, and probably fun in that aspect. Novel controls - easy once they're familiar. Flaw with anti-aircraft guns - they all shoot at the same target, needs better AI for that.

Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition [Steam store page]
Much nicer looking than Far Cry, but it suffers from a tutorial that doesn't let you visit locations out of sequence. After this it is a bit too open and free. On par with BioShock game wise, but not in story.

Passable, with some annoying features like AI soldiers that can blindly shoot you through canvas tents with deadly accurately.

Left 4 Dead 2 [Steam store page]
Even though Killing Floor doesn't have a story line I still prefer it for co-op fun. This is incredibly easy, and the scripted way the special zombies pop out next to you is annoying unless you have the maps memorized.
