Infectonator : Survivors [Steam store page]
The game concept/design is solid - scavenge supplies, rebuild your base, try to rebuild the car to get out of town - but there are a couple fatal flaws that really hurt the gameplay.

The main one is the AI - it's dumb as a box of rocks, and will walk through toxic slime (which kills the character in a few seconds) without hesitation, even when there's an easy path around it. Most of my damage and deaths in this game were due to the AI making stupid decisions.

And when a character "dies", they can be revived for around 15 seconds - which is fine except that it takes like 7 seconds to actually revive them. The timer doesn't stop as you're reviving, which means that if you get to the character with 3 seconds left on their timer, there's no chance you can save them.

It makes it frustrating if you're in the middle of fighting zombies and can't start healing immediately. I'm sure there are upgrades to make heals faster, but it's still a flawed design.

More like Oregon Trail than FTL: Faster Than Light, you have to balance your shields, power, and faction alliances. It seems like many encounters have a preferred way of dealing with them, so a decent amount of this game is just trial and error, seeing what happens if you use Offense/Passive/Contact on a specific encounter.

As you go through these encounters your ship levels up based on how your crew is assigned. Still not sure what these levels actually do, but I've only played for a short time so far.

Please note: as of Jan 2, 2018 the fullscreen mode is still broken on Windows 10, you get a black screen. This can be fixed by setting the game exe to Windows 7 compatibility mode, but it's a shame you have to do that.

As of 12/29/17 this still feels very much like an early access concept that needs tweaking and ease of use upgrades before I'd recommend it. The micromanagement required for gathering resources is pretty high, having to select each type of resource independently and the area you want them to gather within.

I'd much prefer a classic RTS type gathering where the AI is a bit smarter than a dumb drone. And as much as I like being able to research and add a trailer to carry buildings with the caravan, I don't know why this isn't default. Seems odd to have to build new buildings every 10 minutes when you switch maps.

Additionally the level-end timer doesn't give you any obvious indicator that your time is about to run out - if you're not paying attention you can lose the game very abruptly.

Train Valley [Steam store page]
Starts out simple, but to be really good at this game you have to be able to multi-task incredibly accurately and quickly. That just isn't me, but the game is well designed and will be fun for people who love the challenge of optimizing their strategy and reaction times to climb the leaderboard.

I want to like this game, but while the graphics are gorgeous and the flying feels good, the content is lacking and inconsistent. The difficulty curve is polar opposites most of the time, either you're dominating the enemy or dying very quickly, and there's little to do besides pick up resources and shoot enemies.

The EVERSPACE - Encounters DLC pack sounds like it adds some actual mission content, but I haven't played that so I don't know if it's actually satisfying, and it's silly to be charged extra for what should have been part of the base game. Granted the game+dlc is $40, not $60 like AAA titles, but it also has a lot less content than one too.

I give them credit for the weapon design and feel though - each of the main ones is unique and feels powerful if used correctly. And although there are only three ship types they each play completely differently. It's just too bad they didn't add a decent variety of gameplay to go with them.

HunieCam Studio [Steam store page]
It seems like a lot of people like this game, but it's average at best, with the quality declining the more time you spend playing it. Basically it's a shallow clicker game, which surprised me since the store page seems to imply a bit more strategy and management.

Instead it just tries to keep you occupied clicking a handful of different buildings instead of adding any real depth. I'm sure you can optimize it slightly to get a higher score, but there aren't even semi-deep strategy or mechanics here.

As a side note, this game is tagged 'Nudity', but does not contain any as far as I can tell - unlike other games like HuniePop from the same creator.

Corporate Lifestyle Simulator [Steam store page]
This game was originally named and bundled as "Zombies." before being renamed and released on Steam.

I wasn't a big fan of the melee combat, but once you get shotguns and SMGs it makes killing the management a much more pleasant experience.

Needs a faster fast forward, and has a few annoyances if you're trying to get Expert achievements - but the normal gameplay is fun and well designed.

Battlevoid: Harbinger [Steam store page]
Solid, though the ships aren't really balanced and you have to play/lose repeatedly to unlock new ships before you have any shot at winning.

PAYDAY The Heist [Steam store page]
A fun co-op experience. The latest AI patch made it much easier to play without all four players being human. Enemy AI still has nearly perfect aim, but the body armor balances nicely if you use cover. You earn new guns and upgrades as you play.

A game for people who want to pretend to be hackers. Unfortunately this is only slightly more authentic than Hollywood movie representations of hacking.

The tone of this game is somber. The primary goal in most game modes is to cause the greatest loss of life in your opponents as possible. There should be more freedom in unit selection, and a more detailed scoring system that rewards strategy.

This is a well polished and reasonably innovative machine building puzzle game. The interface is complex yet easy to use, and the game can be challenging. The graphics are clean and simple, but fitting. A well done indie.

Counter-Strike: Source [Steam store page]
More realistic and slower paced than some other shooters. The guns also tend to be less accurate than your normal video game for realism, and shooting while you run is nearly impossible. Still, a reasonably fun multi-player FPS.
